As a digital marketing fresher, you will get involved in various activities including campaign creation, campaign tracking and social media activities. You will also participate in implementing multi-channel marketing campaigns, copywriting for websites, create and publish blogs, emails as well as producing content for social media networks.
The salary for freshers in digital marketing varies as per the location, the size of the company, and professional skills and abilities of the applicant. On average an entry level salary might range from rupees 1.5 lakhs* to rupees 2.5 lakhs* per annum.
Employers require several common skills among fresher candidates looking for positions in digital marketing. Key competencies include search engine optimization (SEO), content creation, social media, and data analysis. High levels of content creation skills are particularly relevant when dealing with customer acquisition or retention, and an understanding of social media and how to use it is also very useful.
Certifications can provide you with an additional edge in your resume rather they can also depict your enthusiasm in the field of digital marketing. The most common certification includes the Google Analytics certificate which is useful in analyzing data about website visitors and the hub spot content marketing certification which covers the basic principles of content marketing. In terms of social media advertising, getting certified through the FB blueprint is worth it. Getting a Google Ads Certification is to be expected for a paid advertisement position as it forms the basis for reporting ads. This online certification program is self-paced and is quite easy to complete.
In this position, you can assume that training will be given on various digital marketing tools and platforms that are key to the business. For instance, be prepared to manage pay-per-click campaigns using Google Ads, conduct SEO analysis with SEMrush or Moz, and administer social media with Hootsuite or Buffer. Another useful tool would be Mailchimp for email campaigns and Canva for graphics. Being familiar with these tools will add value to you and improve your performance in the position.
As a fresher, you do not necessarily have to be a data analysis guru although some fundamentals should be understood. Campaign performance metrics such as open rates, click-through rates, and conversion rates should be familiar to you in that you should aim to understand the meanings of such statistics. Thus, the acquisitions of this type of marketing evaluation would be a plus to an individual as most employers look for people with such data analytical skills in deciding marketing strategies and efforts.
Not compulsory, but some basic knowledge of HTML and CSS can come in handy if one needs to perform such works like managing a website or presenting content on a webpage. Knowing how to edit a site to an extent can help when working together with web developers and designers. As a more practical aspect, most big companies use content management systems such as Wordpress which members of the staff should know how to use.
