Junior Data Scientist Job Overview

Ideally, you should have a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics or other relevant fields. The skills required include but are not limited to programming in languages such as Python or R, data visualization tools like Tableau, and an understanding of Machine Learning. Statistical methods, data handling, and data analysis principles and techniques should also be appreciated as relevant skills.

As a Jr. Data Scientist, you will help gather, transform and process data for decision making purposes. You will be involved in putting into practice statistical models, machine learning models, frameworks for creating visuals, and assisting the team in making decisions out of large data sets. You will be working with other senior data scientists, data engineers and other stakeholders solving business problems.

As a junior data scientist, you will be using software like Python, R, SQL for data analysis and use libraries for machine learning like Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow or PyTorch. For data visualization you may use Tableau, PowerBI or Matplotlib. You will also work on cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure, and databases like MySQL or PostgreSQL and NoSQL depending on the application.

Starting as a junior Data scientist role and, after gaining experience, and improving on technical skills, you can assume the position of a Senior Data Scientist. After that, the employees can proceed to niches that contain sub areas such as machine learning, AI, data engineering, among others. With time and experience, there is probably an opportunity to take more senior and leading positions such as Data Science Manager or even the Chief Data Officer.

The pay scale of a Jr. Data Scientist can be ranged between ₹400,000* to ₹5,50,000* based on skills, educational qualifications & experience. For junior data scientist roles, starting with a candidate's profile screening round in which the focus is on your basic knowledge and your ability to solve logical problems.
