Junior UI/UX Designer Job Overview

As a Junior UI/UX Designer, your responsibilities include creating wireframes, prototypes, and user flows, assisting in user research, collaborating with senior designers, and translating business goals into user-centric designs.

Important soft skills include effective communication (to present design ideas), adaptability (to integrate feedback), critical thinking (for problem-solving), and empathy (to understand users' pain points and design accordingly).

As a Junior UI/UX Designer, you will need to master design software such as Adobe XD, Figma, or Sketch, together with wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing capabilities. Knowledge of user flows and information structure is also among the requirements.

You will work on design tools in the likes of Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision or Marvel for prototyping as well as testing tools such as Maze or UsabilityHub. Also knowing how to use some collaborative tools such as Zeplin is a plus.

Courses under the Interaction Design Foundation or Coursera's Google UX Design certification and the NN/g UX Certification Program will be an asset in your resume that will enhance your skills in more profound UX methods.

For jr UI/UX Designers positions, relate to a salary range of about 2 lakh rupees* and up to 3 lakh rupees* depending on factors such as experience, skills, location, and the organization employed.

Usually, you will become a part of the design team that comprises senior designers, product managers and web developers. As a jr UI/UX designer, you will perform design activities and support the team during its design sprints.

As a junior designer, you still can take over responsibility and gain leadership role among your peers through small scale design projects management and upgradings user flows or teaching fresher designers. A willingness to put head on the discussions team members' adds leadership as well.

Once you get a good grasp of the roles and responsibilities, you will be promoted to a mid-level designer, then senior-designer, and eventually lead the design team and then manage the design department. What is critical in this career path, however, is a never-ending acquisition of knowledge and skills.
