Role overview

As a Senior Shopify Developer, you will be a pivotal member of our development team, leading the design, development and maintenance of efficient, scalable and user-friendly Shopify stores. You will take charge of various aspects of the Shopify development lifecycle, focusing on customizing and enhancing e-commerce websites using Shopify’s platform.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Write clean, maintainable and efficient code for Shopify themes and customizations, ensuring adherence to best practices and Shopify’s guidelines.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of complex e-commerce features and functionalities, collaborating closely with designers, product managers and other developers.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews, offering constructive feedback to improve overall code quality and development practices within the team.
  • Write, maintain and optimize tests to ensure the reliability and performance of Shopify stores; identify and resolve advanced bugs and performance issues.
  • Develop and manage reusable components and custom sections within Shopify themes, streamlining development processes and ensuring consistency across projects.
  • Work with cross-functional teams including backend developers and designers to seamlessly integrate front-end components with Shopify’s backend services.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation to support ongoing development, knowledge sharing and onboarding of new team members.
  • Stay current with the latest technologies, frameworks and methodologies relevant to Shopify development and apply this knowledge to enhance existing processes and solutions.

Required skills and experience

  • 2.6 to 6 years of experience in front-end development with a strong focus on Shopify.
  • Advanced proficiency in Shopify’s Liquid templating language with a deep understanding of Shopify’s best practices and conventions.
  • Strong knowledge of front-end technologies such as JavaScript, HTML5 and CSS3, with experience in developing responsive and optimized Shopify themes.
  • Extensive experience in customizing Shopify themes and working with Shopify’s APIs and app integrations to deliver tailored e-commerce solutions.
  • Proficient in using version control systems particularly Git, to manage and collaborate on codebases.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to debug, optimize and enhance front-end code and e-commerce functionality.
  • Proven ability to mentor and guide junior developers fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
